The Trust in Energy and Infrastructure
Introduction
The Trust in Energy and Infrastructure was established to help ensure that a wider cross-section of the worldās underserved communities have access to sufficient and consistent sources of energy and to adequate supporting structures, fundamental to carrying out their daily living.
A Severely Unequal Distribution
The Trust arose out of an acute awareness of the severe and perennial deterioration, even substantial absence, of energy supply and civil infrastructure within Africa and in areas where its global diasporas typically reside.
The Betterment of Surrounding Conditions
The Trust understands that work successfully targeting remedies to such severely unequal conditions often leads to and includes the betterment of structurally related communities.
A Shared, Fundamental Belief
And so the Trust sees its work here as part of a fundamental belief within The Ikoku Charitable Trusts and Foundations ā that humane and transformative attention to infrastructural inequities in Africa and its global diasporas is intimately linked to the humane and sustainable betterment of communities across nations and through much of the world.
The Trustās Finances
Introduction
The Trust in Energy and Infrastructure was established as part of the Declaration of Trust of the Chinyere and Chinelo Ikoku Charitable Trusts. It is therefore subject to the general fiduciary responsibilities outlined in the founding Declaration.
Annual Spending
These responsibilities include stipulations that limit appropriated spending in any given year to no more than 5% of the three-year average market value of the Trustās current principal.
Appropriated Spending I
The Declaration also stipulates that no less than half of such annual spending be dedicated to work on continental Africa.
Appropriated Spending II
It is also expected that such annual spending be overwhelmingly dedicated (greater than 75%) to being of direct benefit to low-income communities and individuals.
To Fund in Perpetuity
Such stipulations are in line with best practices to ensure that the Trust continues to exist in perpetuity and that it continues to have assets to carry out its charitable purposes during that time.
